Explore Switzerland on a 9-day self-drive from Zurich to Rhine Falls, St. Gallen, Appenzell, Lucerne, and Interlaken. Enjoy Lake Lucerne, Mount Rigi, Titlis, and Jungfraujoch, blending alpine peaks, lakes, charming villages, and Swiss culture at your own pace.
Get your rental car at Zurich Airport and check into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Zurich’s Old Town narrow streets, historic churches, and squares. Walk along the Lake Zurich promenade or relax at a café. Evening at leisure for dinner.
Drive: Zurich Airport to Zurich City (15km, 30m).
Overnight: Zurich.
Breakfast. Drive to Rhine Falls (Europe’s largest), enjoy panoramic views and an optional boat ride. Return to Zurich for a walking tour of historic squares, churches, and Bahnhofstrasse shopping streets. End with a lakeside stroll.
Drive: Zurich to Rhine Falls RT (90km, 1.5h/way).
Overnight: Zurich.
Breakfast. Drive to St. Gallen to explore the UNESCO-listed Abbey Library and streets. Continue to the Appenzell region to experience traditional villages, rolling hills, and its cheese-making heritage amid scenic alpine landscapes.
Drive: Zurich to St. Gallen (85km, 1.5h).
Overnight: St. Gallen.
Breakfast. Drive to Lucerne and check in. Take a Lake Lucerne boat ride and a cogwheel train up Mt. Rigi (“Queen of the Mountains”) for panoramic Alps views. Return to wander Lucerne’s Old Town and iconic Chapel Bridge.
Drive: St. Gallen to Lucerne (150km, 2h).
Overnight: Lucerne.
Breakfast. Take the Rotair cable car up Mount Titlis for breathtaking snow and glacier views. Later, visit Mount Stanserhorn using the historic funicular and Cabrio cable car. Return to Lucerne for a relaxing evening.
Travel: Cable cars (1.5h Titlis, 1h Stanserhorn). No driving.
Overnight: Lucerne.
Breakfast. Drive to Interlaken, beautifully nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Spend the afternoon at leisure strolling through the town center, enjoying lakeside scenery, or relaxing at your hotel amid the alpine landscapes.
Drive: Lucerne to Interlaken (70km, 1.5h).
Overnight: Interlaken.
Breakfast. Explore the Jungfrau Region. Optionally ascend to Jungfraujoch (“Top of Europe”) for glacier views. Alternatively, explore Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen valleys, lakes, or outdoor activities. Return to Interlaken.
Travel: Mountain trains to Jungfraujoch (4-5h RT). No driving.
Overnight: Interlaken.
Breakfast. Drive back to Zurich and spend the afternoon at your leisure. Explore the historic Old Town, enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Lake Zurich promenade, or indulge in some shopping. The evening is free to relax and soak in the city’s atmosphere.
Drive: Interlaken to Zurich (120km, 2h).
Overnight: Zurich.
Breakfast. Check out of your hotel and drive to Zurich Airport. Return your rental car and board your flight, concluding your memorable journey through Switzerland’s stunning lakes, towering mountains, and charming towns.
Drive: Zurich City to Zurich Airport (15km, 30m).
